What the conversion shops don't put on the spec sheet
- High-roof vans give 6'2"-6'5" stand-up height but will NOT fit a 6'8" parking garage — measure before you drive in. Standard-roof builds have no stand-up at all.
- Sprinter diesels need AdBlue (DEF) about a gallon per 1,000 miles and ignore a DEF fault at your peril — it can disable the engine. Transit and ProMaster run gas: no AdBlue, more fuel stops, simpler cold starts.
- Diesel-fired heat (Webasto / Espar) is the only practical option for sub-freezing nights and runs without draining the house battery; the cab and house are separate heat systems.
- AWD vans (more common on Transit post-2020 than Sprinter) unlock forest-service-road access most converted vans skip — worth the premium for off-grid trips.
