What collector-car insurance literature doesn't tell you about vintage rentals
- Vintage carburetors retune themselves seasonally — a 1972 VW that ran perfectly in 70F may struggle at 90F in Death Valley or 30F in Yellowstone shoulder season. The host disclosed if the rig is altitude-tuned.
- Driver-grade restoration is honest about the driveability gap from modern cars — slower brakes, less precise steering, no power-anything. Expect a learning curve.
- Vintage motorhome (GMC, early Airstream Sovereign) holding tanks were built for 1970s plumbing. Modern campground hookups may require an adapter; the host provides.
- Collector insurance (via specialty classic-car carriers) is structured differently than standard auto — value is agreed at policy inception (not market-determined post-loss), and most policies have annual mileage limits.
